The Tryptase Test measures the level of tryptase, an enzyme released primarily by mast cells during allergic and immune responses. Elevated tryptase levels may indicate mast cell activation, severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), systemic mastocytosis, or other mast cell–related disorders. This test is commonly used to evaluate unexplained flushing, hives, itching, recurrent allergic symptoms, or suspected mast cell disorders, and to support the diagnosis and monitoring of conditions involving abnormal mast cell activity.
