Zinc RBC Test

The Zinc, Red Blood Cell (RBC) Test measures the concentration of zinc within red blood cells, providing an assessment of longer-term intracellular zinc status. Because zinc is predominantly stored inside cells, RBC zinc may offer additional insight beyond serum zinc levels into the body’s zinc reserves and utilization. Zinc is essential for immune function, wound healing, DNA synthesis, enzyme activity, and normal growth and development. This test is commonly used to evaluate suspected zinc deficiency, investigate symptoms such as impaired immune function, poor wound healing, hair loss, or fatigue, and assess nutritional status or monitor zinc supplementation.
