Prolactin is a hormone produced in the pituitary gland. It is involved in many stress systems and is increased with higher estrogen or serotonin activity. Prolactin plays a role in intestinal inflammation, poor Vitamin D status, hypothyroidism, sexual dysfunction, fatigue and general anhedonia. Prolactin is suppressed by dopamine, which fosters elevated mood, energy and motivation.
